Chapters 13-14
In this section Ishmael really started to change. He even got into drugs. This is why his memories are often misleading. It used to take him a long time to describe a certain event, but now he was describing several days in one chapter. I knew something bad was going to happen when Beah said everyone was messing around and happy except for him and his friend. Then his friends died. He took all his anger out on people who MIGHT have killed his family. He said he doesn't feel anything when he shoots people. The weird part is in theese chapters I realized that the rebels used to be like Ishmael used to be. They all used to be young and innocent, now they are killing each other for no reason. He said all they do is drugs, TV, and war. To me that is a big deal, he couldn't care less. He has changed so much. It's really upsetting how much though. He has truly become emotionless. With all the drugs he never even gets sleep. Drugs and war.... great life. I still don't know which is worse, the rebel army, or the government army. They seem to treat the soldiers nicer, however all the soldiers are completely emotionless. I don't know how Beah ever bounced back from this.

great blog!! yea i totally agree when you said that Beah has become emotionless, because he is never happy nor sad. I don't understand either how he can bounce back from all of this and become a regular person again. I also agreed when you said that their lives are drugs, tv, and war. I dont understand how someone could ever live their life that way, but overall GOOD JOB!! :)
I agree with a lot of what you said. What you have to understand, though, is that Ishmael reached a point where something just snapped inside of him. He went through all of these horrible experiences, all of this pain; I think that if we all went through what he did, we might have become like him. I guess you could say its like an extended period of shock. He's just emotionless because all of the emotions that he has felt has sent his brain into overdrive, and I think he just can't process anything anymore. It didn't help that he was taking a lot of drugs, though.
I would think that the gov.'s army is the better, because both sides are pretty emotionless. the Government has atleast some what "better" treatment towards people. (i say that very very lightly, at least they don't do the "one love" treatment) Also because since he is on the gov. side, logistacaly things would be easier. the rebels would really have to scrounge for food, shelter, ammo, water. Even more would be the U.N. and N.A.T.O. support, after all that is how Ishmael got out, because of the UNICEF, where as the rebels had no way to get out of their captivity, and simply had to fight for the most part. so while both where pretty corrupt and bad, i personaly think that the goverment is better. besides that good job with the rest of the blog.
